Once upon a time, “Lunchtime!” was an e-mail list. Brad, Brian, John and Brian (and sometimes Josh) used to go to lunch together when they were physics graduate students at Duke. Eventually Ann joined in on the fun, then Mary. Usually conversation devolved into quantifying the unquantifiable or debating the moot. Often baseball, a Brian’s sensibilities, or both were horribly insulted. Now that everyone is graduating the actual eating of lunch is more difficult. There is no reason, however, that sensibilities should go without insult…

I care to share. I am not sure what barbs are, hopefully not short for barbies or a part of the female anatomy, but overall i think brad is a pretty cool guy.

A barb is a comment meant to stick you and drag you into replying. Kinda like barbed wire or a fish hook.

Thanks for including me in the “About Lunchtime!” tribute. Even as a sometimes, I’m proud to be a part of what pretty much summed up my grad school experience.

Hey Josh! Welcome to the blog. Maybe we should make some “Everything I needed to know in grad school I learned at lunch” t-shirts. Say “hi” to Loraena for me.
PS: If my telling of the lunchtime! email list is not quite right, please let me know…
